February 1-3, 2019 marked the 29th year for the Antiques and Garden Show of Nashville, making AGS the longest-running, largest and most prestigious event of its kind in the country. It lived up to the hype. This year’s theme, inspired from the event's humbling yet discerning beginnings, “A Passion For Home,” attracted an impressive lineup of speakers including GRAMMY-winning country star Faith Hill, architect Bobby McAlpine and designer Ray Booth, the brilliant designer Bunny Williams, New York-based interior designer Katie Ridder, floriculture experts, and many more. All Show proceeds benefit two beloved charities in the local community, Cheekwood and the Economic Club of Nashville.

This event surpassed my highest expectations with its large number of beautiful antiques and well executed curated booths. The quality of craftsmanship in pieces presented at this event was exceptional, and I was in such awe of it all. Unfortunately, my schedule only allowed me to spend one day at the event, but there was plenty of time to browse a majority of the booths and attend the 'Designing, Building and Living in Paradise' keynote lecture. This lecture, followed by a book signing with Ray Booth and Bobby McAlpine, was my favorite part of the day. The lecture offered a cultivated discussion on the design and construction of Faith Hill and Tim McGraw's Bahamian Island home after touching on other projects the firm worked on for Faith and Tim. MILIEU's design director, Leslie Newsom Rascoe lead the discussion as the moderator, highlighting the collaboration between architect, designer, and client. Architectural Digest has a wonderful article on the couples retreat in the Bahamas, found below if you want to check out the photos of the stunning property.

I was thoroughly impressed with the amount of involvement Faith had on the multiple projects the group has collaborated on together and the beauty created from the hard work. The first project they worked on together, dating back to 2003, was of great interest to me because of the respect Faith had for the historic two level log cabin. Bobby and Ray did a fantastic job listening to their client to restore the home while adding some needed updates, including new entrances/halls to create circulation, something the home was previously lacking, but not uncommon in many older homes. Overall, the entire experience at the show was one to remember!
